Sherwood not at all surprised by Tottenham sack

Tim Sherwood says he was not shocked or surprised when he was told that he was sacked by Tottenham.

The 45-year old has been dismissed by Spurs after six months as caretaker manager following the December sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.

As the Premier League season came to a close, there was plenty of speculation regarding Sherwood's position at White Hart Lane with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino (Southampton) and Frank de Boer (Ajax) linked with the role.

On Tuesday, former Spurs and Blackburn Rovers midfielder Sherwood learnt his fate from chairman Daniel Levy and instead of bickering about the decision, he told i>ITV4 that he respected the choice of the north London club.

"Put it this way, I didn't fall off my chair when he (Levy) told me," said Sherwood during the coverage of Wednesday night's Europa League final between Sevilla and Benfica.

"It wasn't that much of a shock, but it's obviously a disappointment to lose my job. A job that I thought I'd done reasonably well in.

"I have to respect the decision of the club. It's a massive football club. It's going to be bigger than any manager who comes in and any of the players who are there. I've got full respect for their decision."

Sherwood then added: "It was a massive learning curve. It was my first opportunity to manage. I did see a transfer window, but I decided not to make any signings.

"I've seen it all - wins, draws, losses and a few tantrums. And I've seen the sack, which I didn't want to see. I experienced a lot in that five months and I'll certainly learn from it."
