Sheringham: Right time to enter coaching

West Ham United coach Teddy Sheringham is delighted to be on Sam Allardyce's staff.

Sheringham admits he's surprised himself taking on the job.

"Quite a few managers have tried to get me on that path of taking my badges and doing coaching. Terry Venables always told me that I need to be involved, not just for myself but for football. Sir Alex always said to me "get your badges done because you'll love it'.

"It was the same with Pards when he came to West Ham. My view was that I was either a player or a coach or a manager. It's black or white for me. But the gaffer's call in the summer was just perfect timing and the scenario was, too - on a part-time basis," Sheringham told the Daily Mail.
