Sheringham backing ex-Man Utd coach McClaren

Colchester striker Teddy Sheringham says his former Manchester United coach Steve McClaren is the right man in charge of England.

Sheringham, who played 51 internationals and scored 11 goals, spent a successful spell at Manchester United with McClaren, including the 1999 Treble triumph.

"I only know him as a coach, I've not worked under him as a manager and there's a big difference between the two," admitted Sheringham, who was at Buckingham Palace yesterday to collect his MBE.

The striker, now at Colchester, added: "The Israel-Russian result was very fortunate for England, but at the end of the day a league table doesn't lie. We've one game to go and we'll do it."
