Sheffield Wednesday's Fernando Forestieri has narrowly defeated Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala to claim the PFA Fans' Championship Player of the Season award.

The Argentine forward grabbed 40.1% of over 95,000 votes cast in the poll held on the Sky Sports website and apps.

Ayala claimed second spot with 39.9% votes. Burnley striker Andre Gray grabbed the distant third spot with 13% of votes having won the competition's Golden Boot award.

Forestieri has scored 15 goals this season to help the Owls to the Premier League play-off final where they will meet Hull City at Wembley on May 28.
