Former Leeds and Everton star Gary Speed is ready to announce his retirement.
Speed has virtually abandoned his comeback attempts with Sheffield United after back surgery last season and instead set himself a new target, raising money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
The former Newcastle midfielder said: "I see the lads running in training and I'm not sure I can do it anymore."
Asked about any lingering hopes of playing again, Speed added: "I'm 40, I haven't played for a year and you can take what you want from that. I'm not missing playing because I'm enjoying the other side so much."
