Sheffield United have informed Hull City they can sign Harry Maguire for £2 million.
The Hull Daily Mail says the Tigers are in pole position to sign central defender Maguire - if they are willing to meet Sheffield United's £2m asking price.
City have made contact with the Blades this week to declare their interest in signing the promising 21-year-old and an opening offer is thought to be imminent.
Championship side Wolves have so far failed with bids of £1m and £1.5m for Maguire this summer, but a cash deal of £2m up front would finally break the show of resistance at Bramall Lane.
