Sheffield United hit back at Central Coast coach Arnold

English League One club Sheffield United have defended themselves following scathing comments from Graham Arnold.

The Central Coast Mariners head coach spoke with Blades officials regarding the possibility of him becoming their new manager but left Bramall Lane suggesting the club were ‘prehistoric’ and that he would be ‘taking three steps backwards in his development as a professional coach’.

However, United chief executive Julian Winter has taken to the club’s official website to point out at that his club certainly does not agree with Arnold’s sentiments.

"While Graham Arnold may have been responding to one or two challenging questions, I'm flabbergasted and disappointed by his remarks, which are unprofessional, clearly misinformed and not the actual position of the club,” said Winter.

"Key information about how the club is structured and how it plans to operate has been clearly missed.

"We set out a clear manager profile to meet the future needs of the club to 'act differently' in terms of player recruitment and continue the utilisation of home-grown talent where the club has been incredibly successful in recent years."
