Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has slammed the transfer market work of Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. Kop boss Rodgers has splurged £211m on new recruits since taking charge at Anfield in 2012 but, according to Shearer, only £8.5m of that money was well spent.
"I would argue only Philippe Coutinho has been an unqualified success, while Daniel Sturridge spends too long injured," Shearer wrote in his column in The Sun.
"That is not a good transfer record and it is the reason doubts will be creeping in at boardroom level."
"They need to sign world-class players," Shearer added. "Yet they couldn't sign them last year when they were in the Champions League, so it is going to be even harder now they are out of it."
