Shearer slams England for selecting Wilshere over Drinkwater

Alan Shearer believes the England national team has made a glaring omission by leaving Danny Drinkwater out of the final 23-man squad for Euro2016.

Roy Hodgson opted to include injury-prone Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere and Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who recently returned form injury, over Drinkwater who starred in Leicester City's title run last season.

In his blog for Coral, a critical former England star Shearer wrote: "I am surprised that Danny Drinkwater has been left out.

"Once again I think we have gone for reputation rather than fitness and form. It's a big gamble from Roy to take two injury-prone players (Daniel Sturridge and Wilshere) and another player who has been injured in Jordan Henderson.

"Jack Wilshere has not shown anything in the two friendlies (against Turkey and Australia) he has played recently, while Daniel Sturridge has been injured for the last couple of weeks.

"Drinkwater has had a magnificent season for Leicester, would have been full of confidence after their title win, and I do not think he deserves to be left out."
