Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has backed Tim Sherwood's appointment at Aston Villa.
Shearer played with Sherwood for Blackburn Rovers.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "Tim took to management at Spurs in the same way he took his captaincy. He is determined, honest and forthright. He will tell you how it is.
"However he also likes a laugh and a joke. The Villa players will enjoy his personality.
"Certainly Sherwood's appoint gives Villa a chance of staying up. They are a massive club like Newcastle with a great fan base.
"The key is Tim getting Christian Benteke firing again as quickly as possible and organising the defence."
