Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer says Manchester United must buy this summer to keep Manchester City in their sights. Shearer wrote in The Sun: "City's dramatic crowning as champions yesterday represents a serious power shift in the game - unless United's owners come up with the funds for Alex Ferguson to rebuild.
"The final table - after a thrilling final day - shows you there was nothing between the two clubs. But City are now on an upward climb and this title will provide the springboard for greater things.
"United, meanwhile, are stalling. I think Ferguson has done a remarkable job to have even competed with City for the title this season given the team he has had.
"It is nowhere near as strong as it was five or 10 years ago.
"In fact, if I was naming my team of the season I would have just one Manchester United player in it - Wayne Rooney - while I'd have five from City."
