Shearer insists Newcastle too good to go down

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has declared his old club as TOO GOOD to go down.

Shearer said: "I look at those clubs staring at the drop and I can't see goals in a lot of them.

"But I can see goals in this Newcastle team and that's why I believe it is too good to go down - and won't.

"Then we will need to really start again because, to be quite frank, people have been laughing at this club this season."

On Shay Given's sale to Manchester City, Shearer told The Sun: "Losing Shay Given said everything about the situation the club is in right now.

"I don't blame him for going. He has been a fantastic servant to Newcastle and a great professional. But at his age he felt he had a big decision to make and you have to respect him for that.

"It's just what it says about Newcastle which hurts. This used to be a club everyone wanted to come to and play for, not leave. James Milner went at the start of the season and he's now in the England squad. Two players have come - Ryan Taylor and Kevin Nolan - but the club still made a profit in the recent transfer window."
