Shearer: Hull's Huddlestone was passenger against Man City

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer feels Tom Huddlestone isn't ready for an England call.

Shearer branded Huddlestone a "passenger" for Hull City's defeat to Newcastle United.

"There's been a lot of talk about Huddlestone getting into the England squad and going to Brazil. Not on today's performance.

"I thought it was a great opportunity for him today when City went down to 10 men," Shearer said, before accusing the Tigers star of making some half-hearted tackles, playing too deep a role and comparing him unfavourably with his opposite number Fernandinho.

Shearer added: "He was no influence on the game whatsoever.

"In contrast, look at City's defensive midfielder Fernandinho, look what he does.

"Instead of dominating that midfield and getting forward when City were down to 10 men, he was a passenger."
