Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has backed Roy Hodgson's recall for Manchester United veteran Rio Ferdinand. But he says Ferdinand's feud with Chelsea fullback Ashley Cole cannot be allowed to "fester".
He wrote in The Sun: "He has been England's best centre-half since the turn of the year and his performances simply demanded his return to the international scene.
"But there is a problem to be faced by Hodgson as Ferdinand rejoins a group of players that includes Ashley Cole.
"Their differences are well known after Cole publicly backed Chelsea team-mate John Terry around allegations he had racially abused Ferdinand's brother Anton.
"This cannot be allowed to fester. When the squad meet up today, Hodgson needs to get both players into a room to sort out their differences.
"There doesn't need to be a public handshake or anything like that."
Can Rio and Ash mend their differences? Could problems spill over onto the pitch? Give us your shout below...
