Alan Shearer wants Kenny Dalglish to make a shock return to Newcastle United.

The Sun says Shearer has sounded out Dalglish about a return to Newcastle as the club's director of football.

Former boss Dalglish, 58, was sacked by former chairman Freddy Shepherd in August 1998 after just 20 months in charge.

But new manager Shearer is looking to overhaul key backroom roles at St James' Park and wants to tap into his old chief's wealth of experience.
