Shearer criticises Tottenham full-back pairing Rose, Walker

Alan Shearer was not impressed with the performances of the full-back pairing of Danny Rose and Kyle Walker in England's World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.

England managed a 1-0 victory over Slovakia in the opening game of their 2018 World Cup qualifiers on Sunday and there were very few players who managed to perform well for the Three Lions during the encounter.

Former striker Shearer was understandably not convinced with the performance from England and the 46-year-old has criticised the Tottenham Hotspur defensive duo of Rose and Walker.

Shearer stated in his column for The Sun: "The only real wobble we saw was when Danny Rose made a mistake in the first half that almost allowed Slovakia to take the lead.

"After that they were hardly tested. But you still need a contribution.

"Nowadays full-backs can't just defend, they have to join up with the midfield and attack and I'm afraid when Rose and Kyle Walker did do this, their delivery was not up to it."
