Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has hit out at the club following their relegation from the Premier League.
The Magpies' fate was sealed after Sunderland defeated Everton 3-0 at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday night, prompting a strong reaction from former star striker Shearer on Twitter.
In his tweet, the 45-year-old referred to Newcastle's previous relegation from the top flight in 2008/09 while congratulating the north east club's Tyne-Wear rivals Sunderland for getting the points required to avoid the drop.
You can't pretend it hadn't been coming. @NUFC not learned lessons from 2009. Hard as it is for me to say, well done Sam and @SunderlandAFC

The result also sent Norwich City back down to the Championship despite their 4-2 win over Watford at Carrow Road.
