Former Newcastle United great Alan Shearer will step in to a managerial role for the remainder of the English Premier League season.

Reports have suggested that Shearer will be officially unveiled on Wednesday morning as current manager Joe Kinnear continues to recover from heart surgery.

The Magpies are struggling in 18th place on the league table and club hierarchy believes that Shearer is the man to pull them out of the mire.
