Alan Shearer says Newcastle United's squad is short of Premiership quality.
Boss Chris Hughton has signed James Perch and Dan Gosling this summer as he works to a tight budget.
Yet Toon legend Shearer said: "They need four or five new players.
"It's a huge and different challenge for the team next season but I'm optimistic."
