Former Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given feels David Moyes' career at Manchester United could be defined by his handling of Wayne Rooney.
Given wrote in the Irish Sun: "Rooney is still a very good player, but he probably hasn't fulfilled the potential he showed when he burst on to the scene as a teenager.
"He certainly hasn't gone to the same level as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi - but no one else has either.
"Rooney is a very good passer of the ball, he's a clinical finisher, he has vision and strength and sees passes and possibilities on the pitch that others don't.
"All that adds up to making him a serious footballer. And, at the age of 27, he's still young enough to improve even further because he's coming into his prime.
"Maybe that's why he wants to leave. Perhaps he feels like he's become stale from staying in the one club for so long and needs a move to reignite his passion.
"I imagine Moyes will want to keep him because he won't want to lose one of his best players as soon as he walks in the door.
"It'll be his first big test as United manager, and how he handles it could well mean the difference between success and failure next season."
