Shawcross: England experience will only benefit Stoke keeper

Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross believes that Jack Butland's experience in the England goal will be benefit all parties involved.

Butland became the first Stoke player in 30 years to play for England when he started in Monday night's 3-0 win over Lithuania in Vilnius.

Shawcross has given him the thumbs up to the 22-year-old who he feels will only return a better player after his most recent stint with Roy Hodgson's squad.

Shawcross told The Sentinel: "It's good for Jack and it's good for the club to have him involved with England, but he's had an excellent start to the season."

Shawcross also hopes to see Butland in a Stoke shirt for a long as possible, adding: "We seem to have a problem that if our keepers play so well they move on, so we will have to be careful he doesn't have too many saves to make."

"Jack's signed a long contract and he's a top keeper. Hopefully we can keep him for as long as we can."
