Toni Kroos was close to become a Manchester United player four years ago, the MEN reports.
The Red Devils manager at the time, David Moyes, was eager to sign the Germany international from Bayern Munich.
However, the club had already signed Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw and vice-chairman Ed Woodward did not want to bring in another player that wasn't requested by Louis van Gaal, who was already prepared as Moyes replacement.
After Moyes left, Toni Kroos went on to join Real Madrid and can win his third straight Champions League with the Spanish powerhouse this month.
"Toni Kroos was agreed to come in the summer," Moyes explained.
"I had agreed it with Toni himself and his agent. – it was done."
