Billy Sharp remains a Southampton player after the summer market closed on Monday.
The Daily Echo says despite attracting interest from a number of Championship clubs, who had hoped to take him on loan, no deal was struck for the 27-year-old.
The stumbling block is understood to be Saints' insistence that any side taking the player pays 100 per cent of his wages.
Sharp, whose contract runs until 2015, could still leave once the loan window opens for teams outside of the top flight next week.
