Shanghai Shenhua do the job over Suwon Bluewings

Shanghai Shenhua have inflicted Suwon Bluewings first defeat of the Asian Champions League.

The Chinese club were determined to get a good result at home and it was made possible when Bulgarian international Yanko Valkanov opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a glancing header from a Vyacheslav Hleb free-kick.

But less than ten minutes before half-time, former Shanghai player Li Weifeng equalised for Suwon against his old club giving the visitors hope.

The contest ebbed and flowed from the re-start with neither side able to go ahead until the 76th minute saw the match turn.

One-time provider Hleb became scorer on the second attempt after a through ball from Wang Hongliang.

His goal gave Shanghai the ascendency that they held on to for the remainder of the match for a well-earned three points.
