Shakhtar Donetsk winger Douglas Costa knows Manchester United are following him.
United are looking at long-term replacements for Ryan Giggs and asked Gremio if Douglas Costa could join them on trial in December. They were refused permission, but Costa still wants to play for United even though he signed for Shakhtar for £5million.
"I know definitely that United sent a fax to my club Gremio asking to release me to their training ground for a trial," said the 19-year-old.
"But the board of Gremio refused their request and said I already had the ability to play at the top level. They wanted United to sign me without trials.
"They were not ready while Shakhtar signed the contract with me on the terms of Gremio."
