Sevilla turned down by Tottenham in pursuit of Fazio

Tottenham have rejected a bid from Sevilla for the return of Federico Fazio.

Spanish publication ABC reports that Spurs have rebuffed Sevilla in their pursuit of Fazio who left the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for North London int he summer of 2014.

Fazio has failed to make an impact since his arrival at White Hart Lane and is expected to leave this month but chairman Daniel Levy has turned down a proposal that would see the 28-year-old Argentine centre-back return to Sevilla on an initial loan which would be made permanent at the end of the season.

Sevilla are determined to lure Fazio back to Andalusia despite the fact his £7.3million move to Tottenham is a taboo topic in the office of president Pepe Castro.

He recently told Radio Sevilla: "He is an option, but nothing has been completed yet.

"It is clear that Fazio did not leave Sevilla in the best of ways and that really upset me, but I have to think about Sevilla's interests.

"I have to swallow my anger, because this club needs Fazio. I do not like swallowing my pride, but I am willing to do something I do not like because it is in Sevilla's best interest."

Unai Emery's Los Rojiblancos currently sit ninth in La Liga following their fifth-place finish and Europa League triumph last season.
