Sevilla president Jose Castro has confirmed a new contract offer made to coach Jorge Sampaoli.

Sampaoli's current deal expires in 2018 and he has been linked with Barcelona.

"We have spent some time talking about the future with [Sampaoli] and hopefully sooner rather than later we can say that he will be here for at least one more year," said Castro to Cadena Ser. "We have offered him an extension.

"He is very pleased and grateful that the club have given him an opportunity to coach in Europe.

"He is a very serious guy, he's very happy. He will continue here and the project will continue with a coach who has brought a different air."
