Sevilla pair to resist Newcastle, Man City interest

Ivica Dragutinovic and Christian Poulsen both look set to stay with Sevilla.

Serbian defender Dragutinovic was a summer target for Newcastle, but the 31-year-old spurned a move to St James' Park and he has now signed a four-year contract extension.

"If I had gone to Newcastle I would have earned much more money than here," Dragutinovic told the club's website.

"I did not sign for Newcastle because it is difficult to win something there, I know that I am not going to play in the Champions League or lift a title.

"In Sevilla there is always ambition, always the desire to win, for me this is why I stayed here, with my family, with the best fans in the world, with my team-mates and with this ambitious club."

Another player who looks set to remain at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan is Poulsen.

The Danish midfielder has emerged as a target for Sven Goran Eriksson at Manchester City.

However, Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido insists the Dane will not be moving.

"I understand Poulsen is very happy in the city," said del Nido.

"He wants to continue in our ranks."

"We have quality, great footballers and the best fans in the world."
