Sevilla coach Jimenez satisfied after CSKA Moscow draw

Sevilla surrendered a crucial lead in last night's Champions League draw at CSKA Moscow.

Mark Gonzalez struck a magnificent equaliser to salvage a draw for CSKA Moscow in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against Sevilla.

Former Liverpool star Gonzalez, who joined CSKA last summer from Sevilla's local rivals Real Betis, smashed home an unstoppable 35-yard drive in the 66th minute to cancel out Alvaro Negredo's first-half opener for the Primera Division outfit.

The draw was a fair result in freezing conditions in Russia, where CSKA enjoyed the majority of the few chances that either side created, but were rarely able to test visiting goalkeeper Andres Palop.

Sevilla coach Manolo Jimenez said afterwards: "We adapted to the elements and controlled the ball. In the end it was a shame they got that great goal from Mark Gonzalez, which enabled them to get a better result than they expected.

"We knew the opponent, how they played. It was normal that at 1-0 they would come at us with everything in the second half. Our intention was to catch them on the counterattack but you don't always get what you want. It was not possible and so the result leaves a sour taste."
