Several Newcastle senior players face contract doubts

Newcastle United players are facing major wage-cuts if they intend to stay on Tyneside.

The Sunday Mirror says Toon owner Mike Ashley wants to introduce a new £40,000-a-week wage ceiling to bring costs under control.

Along with high-profile pair Joey Barton and Michael Owen, Ashley's policy also threatens big earners such as Obafemi Martins, Mark Viduka, Alan Smith, Damien Duff and Geremi.
