Serie A interest is arriving for Sunderland defender Modibo Diakite.

Sky Italia says the former Lazio defender could return to Italy this month after only moving to England in the summer.

Hellas Verona, Sampdoria and Sassuolo are all in contact with Sunderland about Diakite's availability.
