Sergio Ramos takes charge to lift Real Madrid away from Mourinho crisis

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has taken charge of events inside the club.Punto Pelota says in the aftermath of last week's controversial ultimatum claims, Ramos took on a leadership role to assure Jose Mourinho he had the squad's full support and also set down rules amongst the playing staff, including no more chit-chat with journalists.

It was claimed an ultimatum had been made by Ramos and Iker Casillas to president Florentino Perez that Jose Mourinho had to go, or the club would face a mass exodus of players.

The report has since been denied by all involved and Ramos looked Mourinho squarely in the eye to assure the coach it was all lies.

Mourinho is grateful to Ramos for the way he's taken charge of events and is delighted with the show of support coming from the players. It was the leadership group that pushed Perez to release an official statement condemning the report late, last week.

The loss of Casillas for their Champions League clash with Manchester United is a blow, but Mourinho senses a new surge of energy in his players after the week's events - which was typified by their thumping win over Getafe yesterday.
