Secco, not Ferrara, to become Juventus fall guy
Submitted by tribalfootball.com on Mon, 12/14/2009 - 08:32
Alessio Secco - not coach Ciro Ferrara - could be the fall guy at Juventus in the coming weeks.
Gazzetta dello Sport says rather than axe their rookie coach, Juve's board are discussing replacing sports director Secco.
Roberto Bettega has been linked with a shock return, while Sampdoria chief Beppe Marotta has also been mentioned.
Russia coach Guus Hiddink was reported to be in Turin yesterday for talks with Juve about Ferrara's job. However, he could be handed a mentoring role above Ferrara to help the inexperienced trainer.

Good call on Guus Hiddink. Ciro needs to be mentored. It could be a slippery way of introducing Guus without threatening Ciro. If Ciro does not cut it, Guus steps in. Football politics. Ciro has a long standing relationship with Juve. Burning that bridge could be bad on the PR front. Ciro is not totally at fault for Juve`s problems , but his inexperience is not allowing him to accurately manipulate his players to have a better outcome. Moggi is right when he questioned the new signings. Juve should have looked at the compatibility and cohesion of the team rather that big names. Ciro has got to find out how to re - configure the team to find the balance of the players. That is where he is faultering and that is why there is such an outcry for him being sacked. To please the board and the fans there has to be a scapegoat!!! Typical football politics. Secco is should not be sacked. Juve needs, as a whole, to take responsibility for the poor performances. They hired an inexperience coach; brought in players that don`t fit the configuration; and health of older players is worsening. Key player makes are out and the the glue that keeps them from worse failure is out with surgery. They have a huge mess to sort. This will be a bad year for Juve and they need to accept that, not create scapegoats. Not sharing the blame and passing the buck is irresponsible and just bad business. Those that truly support Juve should see the hypocrisy. Juve should not be asking for respect. They should be asking for forgiveness for their inadequate and disrespect for their staff and fans. No excuses.
