Seattle Sounders wanted Fucito back prior to Portland Timbers move

Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid admits the club were trying to get Mike Fucito back to the club before he ended up at Portland Timbers.

The 26-year old forward was traded to Montreal Impact in February, along with Lamar Neagle, with the Sounders acquiring Eddie Johnson. On Friday, the Impact on-traded Fucito to Sounders' arch rivals Portland with Schmid revealing he was hoping to do a deal with Montreal before the move took place.

"I feel sorry for Mike," Schmid told the Seattle Times. "He's probably got to wear an undershirt because I think their green jersey is going to make his skin itch.

"I don't think Portland would ever make a trade directly with us but obviously they traded with Montreal. For Mike, who wasn't getting a look at Montreal, maybe this presents an opportunity for him.

"We had talked to (Montreal) about it but we couldn't come to an agreement."
