Seattle Sounders' Schmid feels for sacked Columbus Crew counterpart Warzycha

Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid says he feels for old mate Robert Warzycha but understands the decision made by the Columbus Crew.

Schmid and Warzycha worked together at the Crew before the former left to take the reins at Seattle and he suggests it must have been a difficult move for the Crew to sack him after ten years in a coaching role and almost five years as head coach.

"It's a tough one," Schmid said of the firing. "Obviously Robert was my assistant coach and you're always sad when you see a head coach fired, and I want to wish him well.

"I know (interim coach) Brian Bliss, as well. I know (Crew assistant Mike) Lapper. I know the whole situation there a little bit from the standpoint that a lot of people there were there when I was there. But it's a new owner. It depends on what direction he wants to go in.

"I know Robert was in the last year of his contract, but hopefully Robert will end up some place. He's a good coach. He's a quality person."
