Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid says Clint Dempsey is still in doubt for this weekend's top-of-the-table meeting with New York Red Bulls.
The former Fulham and Tottenham star missed the weekend's 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy due to a hamstring strain and will continue to be monitored ahead of the home clash with the Eastern Conference leaders.
"He's OK, he's doing much better," Schmid said. "We'll see how he comes along and see how he reacts in these next few days."
Schmid said Dempsey may have returned to Seattle with a few knocks following World Cup qualifying duties with the US team.
"He didn't do that much with us," Schmid added. "Obviously it's something that, either from the wear and tear of the national team, playing those games in rapid succession, maybe coming back and taking a wrong step at training. It's hard to tell."
