Seattle Sounders majority owner Joe Roth has heaped praise on the fans of the fledgling franchise.
The American film executive said it was testament to the Sounders supporters that the young club was handed the opening game of next season at their Qwest Field against incoming expansion club Philadelphia Union.
"Being selected to participate in the first match of the season is a testament to the passion and energy of our fans," said Roth.
"They have created an exciting atmosphere that is respected by coaches and players throughout the league."
In Seattle's first ever MLS match, they attracted 32,523 fans in a 3-0 win over New York Red Bulls in March this year.
