Seattle Sounders' Montero has wrist surgery

Seattle Sounders forward Fredy Montero has undergone surgery on his injured wrist and is likely to miss this weekend's clash with San Jose Earthquakes.

The 23-year old Colombian attacker sustained the injury at training ahead of the March 19 clash with New York Red Bulls and the Sounders medical staff decided it was time to have the problem fixed.

"He's having surgery on his wrist," Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said. "It's something that they decided they felt they needed to do surgery on now. It's not something major, but it had to be done now because it could develop into something major if it wasn't taken care of.

"Now it's a question of, is he going to play on Saturday? There's a chance he could play Saturday; there's a chance he might not play Saturday.

"If he does miss Saturday, he'll be back for the following week for sure. It's not something that's going to keep him out very long. It's a little bit unsure as to whether he can play Saturday or not. It depends on how the surgery goes [on Thursday]."
