Seattle Sounders coach Schmid pays tribute to crocked Revs keeper Burpo

Seattle Sounders coach Sigi Schmid has paid tribute to New England Revolution goalkeeper Preston Burpo.

Burpo was injured in a 3-2 win over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night. He underwent surgery Sunday to repair two fractures in his right leg and faces about six months of rehabilitation.

Ahead of facing the Revs this weekend, Schmid said: "First off, myself, I know a lot of people in this organization, Brian Schmetzer and a lot of people who have played with Preston, obviously wish him well. Preston is a class guy. I tried to get him at Columbus. I wanted him to actually retire and become my goalkeeper coach but he wanted to keep playing. I really like Preston so hopefully everything goes well with his recovery."
