Seattle Sounders coach Sigi Schmid and goalkeeper Kasey Keller were disappointed after the team's 1-0 loss to Real Salt Lake on Saturday night.
The Sounders endured their third scoreless loss on the trot and Schmid says the performances recently have not been good enough.
"There was just not enough effort," said Schmid.
"At the end of the day, the game should have ended 0-0. We fell asleep at the wrong positions and paid the price.
"You can fault a lot of things," he added. "But really, it just came down to a lack of effort."
Keller said the goal came from a fundamental error that should not occur at this level of the game.
"We just weren't in position. You just can't be offsides on a goal kick," said Keller. "We have too much experience on our team to do that."
