Middlesbrough's Afonso Alves has had his season cut short after scans revealed he has a broken foot.
The Brazilian was injured in a tackle in Boro's 3-1 loss to Newcastle on Monday, forcing him from the pitch.
"Afonso Alves' season is over after Gareth Southgate confirmed the striker fractured a metatarsal in his foot," read a statement on Boro's official website.
"He will take no further part in this season's campaign after scans this morning revealed the extent of the injury."
