League OneScunthorpe United's £18 million new stadium has been given the go-ahead by local councillors, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/. Planning permission has been granted, although that remains subject to Highways and Environment Agency issues over access and flooding being resolved.
The 12,000-capacity facility, part of a wider development at Lincolnshire Lakes, could be ready for the club to move into in July 2016.
"We will be able to announce details of the contractors who we have got to build the stadium in the middle of May," said United chairman Peter Swann.
"Now it's all systems go as we embark on an exciting journey for the club."
It will include a hotel, indoor arena and other community facilities.
