Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has labelled as nonsense claims from Blackpool boss Ian Holloway that the top flight want rid of the Seasiders. Blackpool are 18th in the table and have the final game of the season to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
"They've been a breath of fresh air, they've come up on sporting merit and played positively, therefore they deserve it," Scudamore told BBC Sport.
"If on Sunday they still deserve that place they're welcome to stay."
Sunday's season finale sees a tense situation at the foot of the table, with five teams - Blackpool, Blackburn, Wolves, Birmingham and Wigan - all in contention for two relegation places, with just one point covering the five of them.
