Scotland's Fletcher eyeing tantalizing contest with Rep of Ireland's O'Shea

Scotland striker Steven Fletcher is eagerly anticipating this weekend's Euro2016 qualifier with the Republic of Ireland.

The Scots host the Irish at Celtic Park in Group D of qualifying for the 2016 European Championships and key attacker Fletcher cannot wait to come up against Sunderland teammate O'Shea who he has been schooling at training recently.

"I am looking forward to it, to be fair. I have been running rings around him in training, so if I could do it in the game, it would be fine," said Fletcher.

"I was pleased with my performances with Scotland [last month]. I was unlucky not to get a goal, but I was happy the way I played, and hopefully I can keep my place for the next game."

Furthermore, Fletcher was delighted with the way Scotland has been performing in the early stages of the qualifying campaign which has seen them lose narrowly to World Cup winners Germany, beat Georgia and draw with Poland.

"It was a nightmare when I looked at the group to start with and they picked the first two [in the draw], and it was Germany and Poland," he added.

"But we have shown - and so have Ireland - that we are more than capable of getting through as well. But I think the Ireland game is important for us."
