Scotland defeated Northern Ireland 3-0 on Wednesday night to open their 2011 Carling Nations Cup campaign. Dublin's Aviva Stadium played host to the second of the six matches for the tournament, after Republic of Ireland brushed aside Wales 3-0 on Tuesday.

Craig Levein's men never looked in doubt as they rolled Nigel Worthington's side 3-0, marking Scotland's biggest away from home in five years.

Former Rangers star and new Bursapor signing Kenny Miller, captaining his country for the first time, opened the scoring his 13th for Scotland in the 19th minute from a Charlie Adam corner.

Just after the half-hour mark, Scotland were two to the good when Wigan Athletic midfielder James McArthur, making his first international start, attempted to cross to Miller but the ball floated over his target, and into the back of the net past Irish keeper JonnyTuffey.

Seven minutes into the second half, the Scots were 3-0 up thanks to Celtic winger Kris Commons, who netted his first international goal after being played in by Old Firm rival Steve Naismith of Rangers.

The next set of games in the round robin competition will be played in May with Scotland taking on Wales on the 25th and Northern Ireland meeting the Republic on the 24th.
