The Tartan Army has blasted bosses at Mars for changing the wrapper to support England at the World Cup again, reports the Scottish Sun. The choc bars have been decked out in a St George's Cross and the Auld Enemy's Three Lions badge.

Mars pulled a similar stunt in 2006 by re-naming the treat 'Believe' to back England's failed bid for glory - raising hackles north of the border.

Hamish Husband, spokesman for the Association of Tartan Army clubs, said: "It irritates the neutrals and people who don't like England.

"A lot of people would like to support England. What stops them are these daft adverts, the media and the commentators racing to mention 1966.

"Can you imagine what Mars would produce if England ever actually won the World Cup again?"

Four years ago Mars attempted to appease Scots fans by changing the wrapper to a Saltire with the word 'Believe' and the year 2010. But while the England team cruised through to next month's finals in South Africa, Scotland flopped.

A Mars spokesman said they "don't want to offend".

They added: "The Mars Bars featuring the new wrapper are intended for distribution and sale in England only.

"However, it is incredibly difficult logistically to prevent them being ordered by retailers in Scotland."
