Scotland disappoint with scoreless Norway draw

Scotland boss George Burley tried to take positives from his side playing out a goalless draw against Norway in their World Cup qualifying match. "I think both teams needed the win today but unfortunately it didn't happen for either of us," said Burley.

"I thought the second half we upped the tempo, changed it round a little bit and we were certainly in the ascendancy.

"We had a number of chances but couldn't get that goal, the first goal was always going to win it, and unfortunately we couldn't do it. I thought second half we really pushed on and put them under a lot of pressure.

"It wasn't quite working for us with one up and James (McFadden) was feeling it a bit with his groin so I decided to change it slightly and play with two strikers.

"We took the game to them then and we had the option of playing the ball forward and certainly gave them a few problems."

Burley remains certain that Chris Iwelumo is worthy of playing at international level.

"It was one of those things where you don't know what's happened, whether he's been flat footed or miss hit it, and unfortunately it didn't go in," added Burley.

"It showed though that he can play at this level and he gave them a lot of problems in the second half.

"Both teams were looking for a win but it's still possible (to qualify). There's no doubt that it is going to be difficult.

"Today was always going to be difficult and if Chris had have scored there, who knows, we may have won the match.

"Overall I thought second half we really took the game to Norway and played some decent stuff."
