Scotland crash in Wales

The Tartan army jeered off George Burley's Scotland as they crashed 3-0 in Cardiff to Wales. A vocal section of the 4,500 travelling fans in Cardiff called for Burley's dismissal after first-half goals from David Edwards, Simon Church and Aaron Ramsey gave Wales a convincing victory.

And Burley admitted he could not blame the supporters for their anger.

"I'm not surprised, with the manner of defeat," he told Sky Sports.

"The first 20 minutes we started brightly enough, but we folded like a pack of cards.

"The goals we gave away were shocking and we never recovered." Burley admitted he was under pressure after Scotland suffered a third successive defeat without scoring.

He said: "After a performance like that, of course. We will assess it and take it from there."

Burley added: "I didn't think we had any positives. You couldn't really say we came out with any credit with regards to the performance or the way we conceded the goals.

"We felt at the end of the World Cup campaign we were heading in the right direction but we certainly never showed that today."

Burley later claimed it was too early to say whether the defeat placed a question mark over his future.

"It's too early to assess it," he told BBC Radio Scotland. "We're playing different players to score goals. Unfortunately I can't score for them.

"It was a very attacking team and we still didn't score. It's my job and we're looking to keep pushing on."

But Burley admitted he was at a loss to account for the poor performance.

"I spoke to the players and I can't explain it," Burley said. "I'm looking for them as a team to work hard and stick together. As a team we were too easy to beat. Overall it was a shocking performance."
