Scotland national team manager Craig Levein is determined to do something about the recent drop-off in Scottish football.
Last night's failure of Celtic, Rangers and Heart of Midlothian to qualify for the Europa League has thrown the state of Scottish football into disarray but Levein is confident that things will change but he insists they won't change unless action is taken.
"I think Scottish football is about more than just the national team. Ok, there were some disappointing results last night but I think everything has to be looked at in its own context," he said.
"You look at the money the managers of the Old Firm teams have available to spend now compared to Martin O'Neill and Dick Advocaat. You just can't compare the two things, it's impossible. Not so long ago we had teams who were in European finals and now we go out in August but sorry, the amount of money available for the managers nowadays is negligible compared to what was available then.
"The quality of players you can sign dictates how far you go in Europe so I think we have to be very careful.
"Those clubs don't have the wherewithal they had years ago but things will get better, for me that is the key. There has been a huge shift within the SFA (Scottish Football Association) recognizing that we are, first and foremost, at a low point and secondly, rather than feel sorry for ourselves, let's do something about it.
"That requires everybody in Scottish football, not just me or Stewart Regan or Ricky Sbragia, but it's about the whole of Scottish football recognizing that we need to improve and rather than lament on what's happened in recent times, let's do something about it."
