Scotland boss Levein impressed by West Brom's Morrison

Scotland national team manager Craig Levein has sung the praises of midfielder James Morrison.

The 25-year old West Bromwich Albion star has made 13 appearances for the Scottish team but could be at the centre of Levein's plans after impressing him in training and games recently.

Ahead of tonight's friendly against Denmark at Hampden Park, Levein described Morrison as being a 'fan favourite' at his club whilst also having a 'superb technical ability'.

"People don't become fans' favourites without having made a lasting impression on them over a period of time," he said. "But that's where I think he's headed.

"I wouldn't want to call him a potential talisman because I want to get away from this idea that one player is going to do it all for us on his own. James is part of a group and he probably sits under the radar a wee bit.

"What I'm trying to point out is not that he's better than everyone else but that he's a fantastically talented player who fits the profile of everything we are trying to do.

"His technical ability is superb. He's comfortable as part of the team. He isn't someone who sees himself as better than anybody else. He isn't maybe talked about that much."

And Levein added that perhaps Morrison is the closest thing the Scottish team has to a truly gifted Brazilian style of player.

"When we played Brazil (in March) we got a bit of a chasing but over in Brazil on the TV they were replaying the little run he did when he beat five or six players," he added.

"They showed it over and over again and they were saying: 'Look, there's a Scottish player who can do what we like to see our players do!'"
